Rather i suspect the hull deck joint was previously separated (and poorly repaired; caulked from the outside) and when the straps put pressure from below, forced the hull out and away from the deck, popping the rubrail loose.
No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining/highlighting of text or writing in the margins. However, on that boat I was able to do the repair with the boat rolled over. Maintenance.

Re: Hull/Deck Joint you should seal the deck to hull joint with a marine specific sealant like 3M 4200 or 5200 (the 5200 is deemed a VERY permanent type bond if used according to directions, where 4200 is a bit less "agressive") the screw spacing you mention at every 2' seem a bit far apart. Very minimal wear and tear.
