It does require micromanaging, but more than that it just requires good timing for when to activate it, which isn't too hard. Each would take a kneeling position and form a line, laying their spears on the ground in front of them. You're on the attack and need to close fast on some archer unit? yari always beast out when DEFENDING in a yari wall. Also use whatever boosts/debuffs you have straight away from your katanas, your naginata, your yaris (not rapid advance) and your general because katana can really mess you up quickly. The wall lets ashigaru hold for an absurdly long time, even against vet katana samurai, while yari sam would've been decimated. You need to understand that Yari Samurai and Yari Ashigaru are quintessentially different units.Yari Ashigaru will hold a line "better", or more accurately, in a more cost-effective way. Yari ashigaru are armed with very long spears that are almost pikes, and can be used to lead a battle charge into battle or act as pincers.
As yari walls are a powerful tool that greatly increases the damage potential of its users, this puts Yari Samurai at a distinct disadvantage. But usually you might as well get naginata samurai for that..Mainly just for flanking. #5. Yari Ashigaru should not be compared directly to samurai warriors armed in a similar fashion. They have rapid advance, a good charge bonus, and they slaughter cavalry so being isolated isn't as big of a deal. They aren't a very useful unit, particularly if you are talking about singleplayer, since cavalry is pretty rare. They are probably the worst unit :( They can be good to lead the charge against missile units or to fend of cavalry, but you can get 2 ashigaru for the same upkeep so therefore they are not a good unit to get (in the campaign). Ashigaru can win against Samurai in Open Battle, they can win not only because of their sheer number, but remember that Yari Ashigaru in Yari Wall can beat Yari Samurai, and once they hold up to 3 Naginata Samurai. Spearwall is beastYari Samurai aren't a replacement for Yari Ashigaru, but a replacement for Yari cav.Though their base speed doesn't differ much from the Ashigaru, the likelihood that the Ashigaru would be fixed in yari wall and the rapid advance ability make them far quicker and responsive in practice.Morale wise, like the cav, they can operate independently. So basically, they can fulfill any role yari cav can, except worse but without the vulnerablity of cav.So, use them when you face an abundance of things that'll ruin cavs day, like firerockets and other anticav. Not really. In any case, if your enemy brought monks for example, your Yari Ashigaru will be in a tight spot.
Rapid Advance. The enemy general is unprotected/far away from reserve units? You can literally win with like 2 yari and maybe 4 bowman vs a 20 stack, ashigaru, samurai it doesn't really matter unless its just a ton of katana, you'll win. ^armour protects against all damage, ranged and melee. Their rapi advance allows you to catch any horses trying to charge your cav with having to stand out in the open getting peppered with archer fire the whole time.Rapid Advance is theoretically useful at intercepting charges from flanking cavalry units or even any flanking unit (they could comfortably pin down and hold another Samurai infantry unit, at least for a while).I say theoretically because in single player the AI doesn't know the first thing about flanking, especially not with Cavalry. OR if you can't our envelop them, they serve well as a second line of troops you use to protect your missiles.Yari samurai have their moments.
By the Sengoku Jidai, the yari was the most common weapon issued to ashigaru and samurai, although they used different fighting techniques and tactics. If said monks break through the center, you can expect a mass route to happen in Ashigaru-centric armies. Morale wise, like the cav, they can operate independently. From what I remember it has a tendency to send it's cavalry charging at your front lines to get slaughtered, which I guess is why it also has a tendency to bring very little Cav in the first place on the campaign, CA knew what they were doing.yari samurai excel as shock flankers to roll up a long infantry line when you can fully envelop the enemy.
When compared to Yari Ashigaru, it's true that Sams have better all-around stats, but Rapid Advance is not nearly as good as Yari wall. melee defense is how good the soldier is at defending in melee, a unit with high melee defense will block, parry and dodge more often. Nov 13, 2018 @ 10:40pm After years of playing this game I've really only recently discovered how good yari wall is.
In the end, neither is fully better or worse, they just excel under different circumstances.yah, you're right about the yari wall holding well, but if they are contacted from the side by even stray archers in melee they are likely to rout and die and then you have nothing to fall back on.Here is the problem you have, you have worked your play style around yari ashigaru because they are the first units you get in the game. BastardSword. Their level of training varied but a good army of Ashigaru would hold their ranks and provide the needed support on the battlefield. Yari ashigaru is better suited for defense with their pathetic charge bonus of 1 and spear wall ability. You're browsing the GameFAQs Message Boards as a guest.
specifically: Loan sword Ashigaru vs Yari wall = Loan sword victory by a mediocre degree. while a unit with high armour can withstand more damage. They are not nearly as formidable up close, though they can recover from being attacked from the flanks or rear better and also move much faster. Rule of thumb is never click an attack order with yari ashigaru. You can also use ninjas behind your katanas and naginata to bomb them with grenades and take out the katanas a little quicker.Usually at this stage I am destroying their archers with my cav, but if you can, just spare one or two horses (usually carry 4) (i use mostly mounted katana samurai as these guys destroys everythiing except mounted yari samurai, they especially destroyed archers and katana samurai easily) to flank charge the katana samurai. You will find that against anything but katana samurai, the yari samurai will do better than the yari ashigaru and are far more flexible (i.e.
Once a spear was in a target it was to be held firmly in place until otherwise ordered.
