They also get a loyalty bonus from all their generals and an honor bonus on your Daimyo which helps with diplomacy. If you want a challenge, Ikko Ikki and Uesugi. They have strong Katana samurai which are a good balanced anti-infantry unit between attacking and defending. Once you gain a foothold however, you're in the richest and most dense part of japan, and your ashigaru are excellent!Best way to learn is to jump in the deep end. Isolated, with excellent bowmen. I found Ikko Ikki more difficult, but I didn't understand really how to play and tried to play more "like normal" than Ikko Ikki (esp. Elite units can break them, but they'll hold out for a while if you're careful with them. They have awesome archers and are amazing if you are a defensively focused Total War player. And i have put on try hard mode.
