They usually consist of Finns trying to stop the Russian human wave from getting in to the Finnish trenches, but every battle is still different, when the number of Finnish soldiers is decreasing and decreasing and the battles are getting more desperate. The Winter War 1939 The war between Russia and Finland, generally referred to as the Winter War, lasted from November 30th 1939 to March 13th, 1940. Casualties for the Finns numbered around 26,662 dead and 39,886 wounded.

The situation continued to worsen through February with the Finns falling back towards Viipuri on the 26th. On February 11, the Soviets finally achieved success when they penetrated the Mannerheim Line in several places.
