The signage on the trails is great and the paths were easy to walk on. When we visited, the parking lot at Santa Elena was half full and it was all rental cars, no large tour shuttles and vans. There are a vast range of walks available, depending on accesSanta Elena is far better than the Monteverde Cloud Forest.We enjoyed both,but this was a MUST for us.We completed all the trails with no guide on our own pace,in about 3.5 hours.Less busy as not as popular as the Monteverde one,we had the whole place to ourselves.FreeWe went here rather than to the larger and more famous theme park because more convenient to do ziplining right after a few hundred yards away. Located in El Castillo de La Fortuna and with Sky Adventures Arenal reachable within 3 miles, El Castillo Paradise. The parking lot was absolutely packed with large tour shuttles and rental cars. The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve of Monteverde is one of the first community administered reserves in the country (in the sense that it is not a national park, but under the protection of the Arenal Conservation Area). Originally the plan was to try and use the land for agricultural research, but that was unsuccessful.
We spent most of our time enchanted by the beauty of the cloud forest!The trails were easy to walk on and because we did a guided walk at Curi Cancha, we didn’t feel like it was necessary for Santa Elena.But if this one is the only hike you’re doing and you want to learn more about it, then I recommend doing the Santa Elena Cloud Forest guided tour. Located in Monteverde Costa Rica, within 1.2 mi of Sky Adventures Monteverde and 2 mi of Selvatura Adventure Park, Nature house features accommodations with a garden, free WiFi. The Santa Elena School Board is charged with maintaining the reserve, so entrance fees are split between the reserve and schools. !Amazing garden, small paradise, very relaxing Super nice and helpful staff Provided tea as one of us...Very friendly and helpful personnel - great advice regarding tours and organization.Felt like we were in the jungle. Apart Tierra del Fuego offers fully equipped apartments, Gardens view . Originally the plan was to try and use the land for agricultural research, but that was unsuccessful. We were only able to hike the Encantado Trail because it started pouring down rain otherwise we would have stayed longer.We recommend doing the Encantado or Cano Negro trails as they have a great view of The trails are all in well maintained conditions. I wore closed toed hiking sandals and my feet were cold, I wish I had wore socks with them no matter how silly it looked!
