How bad is the poison oak around this trail and Big Sur in general this year. I was just passing through, so I guess I will try again on the next trip.Does an overnight at the Salmon Creek Trail require an Adventure Pass?You should not need a pass to park on Highway One. Also, you'll likely lose GPS service around there so mark it down on a map before you head into Big Sur for the day. Unlike the trail overlooking beautiful Park at the trailhead on a big horseshoe bend in Highway One, just south of the non-operational Salmon Creek Ranger Station and You can basically follow you ears the entire way to the falls. The rocky gorge-like area creates two small beautiful waterfalls and several deep pools which reflect the clear blue-green waters.

On your drive up the Big Sur Coast stop off at the Salmon Creek Ranger Station and do a short hike up the Salmon Creek Falls. ItLoved the falls. Thomas lingered with the photos so Eric and I sat in there for about 5 minutes, I was prunish as hell.
I haven’t mentioned it much, but I love waterfalls. This will definitely be high on my to-do list for hikes in Central California.
This is unique way of visiting one of the most scenic areas in the U.S.

It is a fairly short hike to the falls which were stunning albeit not very tall.Rugged short hike..but as a fairly experienced hiker, there should be a few trail markings on the "path"..I know the hike is short 0.3 of a mile but it would not take much to lose your place out there..and it would not take much for the California Forestry to put up a fewWe stopped here on our drive through Big Sur during the week in July. It’s only about a quarter mile up to the falls from a short trail that begins at the sharp bend in the highway near the ranger station. After 300 feet, break from the trail through a garden of boulders toward the creek. Cross a couple of small grottos and approach the waterfall. Hoist yourself a couple feet and cross the rock. They are super adventurous and pretty and I just love everything about them. This is a natural waterfall about a mile hike from the highway. I guess it was bad karma for going a bit off the trail.We once camped in a cave near the falls. Thanks in advance!This trail is not suitable for bikes. I got some on my arm from this hike and it took awhile to heal (it was pretty bad). Falls were impressive, water was completely clear and the pools were really nice.
Even if you aren’t up for this quick bit of climbing, the waterfall is quite impressive from the rocks just downstream.
The walk to the falls isn't particularly spectacular and the falls themselves aren't particularly high but there's always something a little fascinating about that much water pouring over a cliff edge. We hiked out there and Eric, Zach, and I immediately swam to it and got underneath it. Two branches of water unite as they drop 120 feet and crash into the pool below, giving rise to a spray of mist.
