The short crossing usually includes an extra treat – a visit to the nearby seal colony and an opportunity to glimpse majestic sea eagles.The sunken garden is one of Ilnacullin’s outstanding features, with beautifully placed and elegantly proportioned colonnades, steps, raised terraces and garden structures arranged around a formal pool and enclosed by clipped Yew hedges.

It's a short boat trip out there from the village and the seals are always on the rocks as we pass by.the garden is very well maintained aHighly recommended if you enjoy gardens - the wonderful walled garden alone is worth the trip - the Italian gardens with the Caha Mountains as a unique backdrop are beautiful.

It was well organised with covid restrictions. 2nd visit to Garnish. The Island is lovely with lots of unusual plants & shrubs many from Australia & New Zealand which forIf you like gardens - you’re in for a treat.
It’s an okay walk but really isn’t worth the money and west cork has much more to offer than this Plans for a mansion were prepared incorporating the Martello Tower, but it was never built. The Gardens at Garnish Island will have new Sunday opening hours from June 1st First Ferry departs on Sundays for June July and August at 10.30am. The staff could not have been more helpful.2nd visit to Garnish.
The opening hours for gardens at Garnish (Garinish) Island are as follows: April & May: Daily: 10:00 – 17:30 June: Monday – Friday & Sunday 10:00-17:30 Saturday 10:00-18:00 July & August: Monday – Friday & Sunday 09:30 – 17:30 Saturday 09:30 – 18:00 September & October: Daily: 10:00 – 17:30. Pathways wind around the landscape, leading to a number of fascinating garden buildings, such as the Grecian temple, the clock tower, the casita, and an original Martello Tower. For a more enhanced visit we would suggest visiting outside those days.

The seals on the boat trip were cute but there wasn’t that many. A selection from their vast collection of important paintings, prints, drawings, and books can be seen on display inside. Garinish Island will reopen on Monday 6th July at 9:30am. Time on Garinish Island will be limited to 90 minutes per visit due to Social Distancing Restrictions. It’s usually €5 per person but currently half price due to the COVID restrictions.

Last time 12 yrs ago. The cruise to Garnish will include a visit to Seal Island, a colony of wild harbour seals. The boat trip was nice, saw seals basking on rocks on way out.
Here, Peto’s genius, combined with Annan Bryce’s ideas and resources, resulted in the creation of a formal architectural garden which blends well with its natural setting. This charge is quite separate from the fares collected by boat owners.Even for those who are not particularly interested in gardens, Ilnacullin is an attractive place to visit.
Garnish Island (Ilnacullin Garinish or Garnish) is located in the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay, in Southwest Ireland.Garnish is world renowned for its gardens which are laid out in beautiful walks and it has some stunning specimen plants which are rare in this climate.

The house tour was reallAfter reading about it for years i finally made it to Garnish Island off Glengariff in Co Cork and it didnt disappoint. Overall a great experienceIt was okay. The boat driver was funny & informative & answered all our questions. Just be aware that the island is a separate charge to the ferry.
Keenly interested in horticulture and architecture, the Bryces planned to build a mansion and lay out an extensive garden on the island.
