I want more! It would have been nice to still have some people around to ask questions but other than that, you really get to explore around the castle. First off both Doune castle and its grounds were used in the comedy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. That was a lovely surprise, as I am such a fan. So I recommend getting there sharp.The castle itself is situated on a slight slope, and upon driving into the car park you are immediately greeted by its presence. The groups in charge of accommodating visitors have even gone the extra mile to make it a unique, interesting, and fun experience for those who wish to witness … One of the main features that struck me was actually the size of the fireplace in the kitchen. It stands alone surrounded by a carpet of green grass, inviting the young and old alike to explore its rooms and grounds. (Disclaimer: the above description is of when I visited in late July, so your view / experience would obviously be different, depending on when you visit).Impressively well-preserved medieval castle, but don't expect fireworks inside!Its a nice castle, plenty of history but for the cost not really value its only the price of a fish supper to get in, but the fish supper will last you longer,This is where they filmed the Monty Python and scenes with Winterfell for Game of Thrones! Actually, parts of the shows Outlanders, Monty Python, and Game of Thrones were filmed here and a little of that is explained.
We climbed narrow, steep and winding stairs to two bedrooms and the master's room for meetings, including a place for the women to listen to church.

As with all of the castles there is a nice gift shop.Doune Castle is a must visit when you are exploring castles in Scotland.This place has been in a number of movies so it's a good stop. My wife and I walked through this trail for almost an hour after finishing the castle tour and doing our best French Knight Monty Python impressions. Very cool for the Monty python fans like me. This is a self guided tour with audio so you can go where you want & any order you want. It's no wonder all those movies and shows would choose Doune as their background: it's what every kid grows up thinking a castle should look like.
