Sand is included. I had aqua sand as a kid and absolutely loved it! It is messy but as long as the adult is aware and prepares for this kind of fun it's really not an issue.

He played with it once but it has not been played with again. He can fill it up on his own, clean it out on his own and he loves it. They also were able to create tall towers, but they are hard to see because of the milky color of the plastic container. Aqua sand is so amazing because it stands up in water.
